From the creators of Barbiecore, comes to the shop windows... tenniscore. What is it? Its name says it all, it is the new aesthetic that obsesses celebrities and stands out in street style, characterized by mixing clothing initially for playing tennis, with a preppy point. After so much pink, a break to play some games doesn't hurt.
Pleated skirts, socks above the ankle, polos, knit vests and oversized sweaters are some of the emblems of this trend. A distinctive style that gathers followers around the world every second, and that we have already seen on celebrities the likes of Kendall Jenner or Zoë Kravitz. But, where has it come from, and why do we only want to dress as if we were playing the Wimbledon final? Maybe Alcaraz, our new national icon, has something to do with this fever for the most inspiring sport in the fashion industry. Also the rise of the 'old money' aesthetic -basically, it consists of emulating the style of rich Americans-, which has gone viral on TikTok in recent months.
We could say then that tenniscore is, to locate us, as if Sofia Richie and Blair Waldorf were playing a tennis match at a private club in New York: they would dress in Lacoste, Ralph Lauren or Tommy Hilfiger with nude, beige, navy blue or red outfits, before dropping the rackets and having a cold matcha XL while commenting on the play with a pain au chocolat in hand. A picture that we noticed a few months ago when we talked about athleisure, the trend born from the pandemic that claimed sportswear, and that has evolved becoming more sophisticated and perhaps more feminine in the case of tenniscore.

But its maximum exponent is, without any doubt, Lady Di. The People's Princess exemplified the trend like no one else with her sporty chic outfits. Impeccable styles that continue to influence three decades later, and in which simplicity was not at odds with good taste and elegance. In fact, at the opening of the Women's International Tennis Association in 1988, the Princess of Wales appeared with an oversized white cardigan, an outfit with a gray-blue striped pleated skirt, a tiny white vest and classic sneakers. Or, in other words, she appeared with a perfect tenniscore outfit, so timeless that we could wear it today.

So... How is tenniscore worn in 2023?
According to street style, in the most literal way. Pleated skirts are the new must of the summer and aim to become the essential garment of the fall, and the knit polos and oversized sweaters we anticipated at the beginning have definitely left the courts to take the place they deserve in our closet. You can combine all the clichés of this sport in the same look or adopt the trend in a more subtle way, but, either way, you will end up succumbing to the most inspiring aesthetic of the season, and you may even end up buying a racket. The look, we take care of it.
