If I had to define the return of the much-loved 90s style in one word, it would undoubtedly be nostalgia. Fashion crossed the runways and hit the streets, sparking an explosion of creativity backed by a multitude of cultural influences. We already know that trends come and go, and it's no secret that this one is back with almost as much force as it had in its heyday, and of course, many fashion lovers feel inspired by its power.
The 90s, a time when fashion stopped being just that to become a statement of identity, have clearly shown us that there are garments with no end point and that less is more. So, from Esdemarca, we want to take a trip through time to show you how to include this style in your life.
Tube Dress.
Any fashion lover will have seen Sex and the City not once but several times, and yes, one of Carrie Bradshaw's wardrobe staples is back, the iconic tube dress. A tight-fitting design with varying lengths that follows the body's natural curves. Designers like Schiaparelli and Max Mara have presented new versions of this classic on their runways. To introduce this trend into our wardrobe, we can opt to pair it with simple accessories with some special detail for a casual outing, or take it to its maximum expression by making the most of its more elegant side.
Sportswear.
Iconic sports brands like Adidas dominated fashion in the 90s. Hoodies, jogger pants, or sneakers were essential basics in any wardrobe. This trend comes with a rising urban style, characterized by its comfort and versatility. Brands like Louis Vuitton have created themed collections around the 2024 Olympics, inspired by outdoor fashion, combining luxury and tradition. The Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris shared an exhibition for several months exploring the links between sport and fashion from its beginnings, inviting us to merge and experiment with different eras and styles.
Minimalism: Less is More.
90s minimalism is also back, defined as a style statement in itself. Characterized by simplicity, basic garments, and a neutral color palette, where simple silhouettes take center stage, translating into elegance. Far from being tedious, it offers us endless possibilities, and we only need to look at Sofia Richie, established as the queen of this movement, who dazzles with a wardrobe full of basics that need little else to be the protagonists wherever they go.
Grunge Aesthetics.
Plaid shirts, combat boots, and distressed jeans are some key items to understand grunge aesthetics (popularized by bands like Nirvana), easy and simple. Or better yet, a messy, relaxed, and (very) informal look (but the coolest). Cara Delevingne or Harry Styles frequently incorporate grunge elements into their looks, combined with their personal style, like XXL leather jackets or striking accessories, teleporting us to the fashion that is sweeping the scene thanks to the confluence between style and modernity.
